Photographing People: Lenses, Personalities and Emotions
When I was in college at Hamilton, I took a lot of photographs and spent hours in the darkroom, but photographed relatively few people. Since that time, I started using a telephoto lens, among others, which allows me to get close enough to capture personalities and emotions without interfering (too much) with what is going on.
I am currently photographing weddings, portraits and events in the Boston area and beyond. For the weddings and events, my approach is pretty much the same–I try to capture what’s happening while providing minimal direction. Of course, there are times when I’ll ask someone if they’d like to move here or do this, but most of the time, I’ll just photograph people as they are.
